Flash Sites

Flash sites are websites that were made with Adobe's (formerly Macromedia's) Flash software. This software has the capability of making band sites with top rate designs. I think of the beautiful site of the band A-fir-ju-well. There are some drawbacks to Flash sites however, that bands should consider.

Manageability:  Flash sites are more time consuming and basic updates and changes are much harder than with your standard HTML site.

Cost: Flash sites are more expensive.  You can get cheap templates but that means your band site will not be original.

Loading time:  Flash sites take longer to load.  There are still many people out there without new computers and cable internet.  If a band site takes more than a couple moments to load most fans click right on out of it.

I've read many testimonies from music affiliated persons from booking agents to producers stating their distaste for Flash sites.

People seem to especially hate Flash intros.  People are impatient! They want to get right to the info.  If you do chose to have a Flash intro on your band site, please don't forget to put a button to skip it.

If you have animated ideas for your site, consider making Flash components like a header, but not render the entire site in Flash.

For the most part people are not impressed with moving or animated things anyway.  So unless you have an extraordinary design in mind that requires Flash, consider the advantages of a regular band website.
