- Your Demo CD Sad but true, most people, even booking agents, listen to about the first ten seconds of a song to make a judgment. The judgment is whether or not to keep listening. Big name producers know this and often won't allow their commercial bands to have something like a long, slow-to-build intro. They know people are scanning CDs at places such as Best Buy, moving on after a few seconds. While changing all of your songs around to fit marketability is certainly not recommended, do try to select your song that has the most immediate catch to be the first song on your demo. After that hook the listener should more readily listen patiently to the rest. On your album its ok--maybe the first song is the introductory song to the album's theme--but with a demo do keep people's short attention span in mind! |
